Après la traditionnelle soirée d’accueil du vendredi soir dans les salons du champagne Canard-Duchêne à Ludes, la cinquantaine d’équipages venus de Grande-Bretagne, de Belgique, d’Allemagne, d’Autriche et de France avec leurs superbes voitures, étaient bien présents, pour le départ, réservoirs pleins, samedi matin à 8 h 30 à la Villa Demoiselle du domaine Vranken-Pommery à Reims. Après un petit déjeuner fort sympathique, les participants prirent, sous un soleil radieux, la route fort animée du vignoble en pleine vendange en direction de Aÿ pour une visite des caves du Champagne Deutz et une dégustation qui a ravi… les co-pilotes.

   Puis chacun prit la direction de Laon par les petites routes de la Montagne de Reims et du massif de Saint-Thierry. A Laon le rallye fût accueilli par l’Association de la Montée Historique de Laon qui avait organisé de main de maître le parcours dans les rues tortueuses de la cité médiévale et le stationnement si délicat en cette journée très encombrée du Patrimoine. Après le déjeuner pris au pied de la Cathédrale dans la magnifique salle gothique Bernard de Clairvaux, nouveau départ cette fois-ci en direction de la forêt de Saint-Gobain et des collines du Sud-Laonnois sans manquer de visiter au passage quelques-unes des remarquables églises Art-Déco de cette région. Enfin tout le monde s’est retrouvé juste avant l’orage à l’Hôtel du Golf de l’Ailette où avait lieu la traditionnelle soirée de gala.

   Après une nuit réparatrice pour tous, un départ matinal et brumeux conduisit les participants en empruntant le tristement célèbre Chemin des Dames à la non moins célèbre Caverne du Dragon pour une double visite en anglais et en français. Non sans une pensée pour la mémoire des combattants qui occupèrent ces lieux dans des conditions épouvantables, le rallye mis ensuite le cap au sud, toujours par de petites routes pittoresques, pour une halte au Champagne Mont d’Hor à St Thierry. Après une nouvelle dégustation, toujours très appréciée… par les co-pilotes, les équipages se dirigèrent vers le Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte à Chouilly pour y prendre le très convivial déjeuner final du rallye. Puis ce fût la remise de pétillants cadeaux à chaque participant avant de se séparer et de se donner rendez-vous dans deux ans pour le XXX^ème rallye.

After the traditional welcome party on Friday evening in the salons of Champagne Canard-Duchêne in Ludes , the fifty crews from Great Britain , Belgium, Germany, Austria and France, were present for the start on Saturday morning at 8 : 30 pm at the Villa Demoiselle of the Champagne house Vranken-Pommery in Reims. After a continental breakfast, and under bright sunshine, the participants took the very busy roads through the vineyards in the middle of the grape harvesting towards Ay for a tour of the cellars of Champagne Deutz and a tasting that delighted ... the co- pilots .

   Then everybody drove in the direction of Laon  along country lanes in the Montagne de Reims and the Massif de Saint -Thierry . At Laon the rally was hosted by the Association de la Montée Historique de Laon who organized masterfully the itinerary through the winding streets of the medieval city and the  organised parking on this very crowded Heritage day. After lunch taken near the Cathedral in the beautiful Gothic Room Bernard of Clairvaux, the afternoon start took the rally in the direction of the forest of Saint -Gobain and hills of South Laon  including visiting some remarkable Art Deco churches of the region. Finally everyone gathered, just before the storm, at the Hotel du Golf de l’Ailette which hosted the traditional gala evening.

   After a restful night for all, an early and foggy morning departure led participants to the Great War battlefields via the celebrated Chemin des Dames to the equally famous Dragon's Cave for a  tour narrated in both English and French. With much thought of the memory of soldiers who occupied these places in appalling conditions, the rally then headed south , by still picturesque little roads to stop at Champagne Mont d' Hor at St Thierry . After another tasting , always appreciated ... by the co- pilots, crews went to the Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte in Chouilly for having a very friendly final lunch followed by the presentation of sparkling gifts to each participant before separating and promising to meet again in two years time for the XXXth rally.
